Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2017: When is the ceremony; who is in; where can I watch it

Whether it’s rap, heavy metal, pop or even disco, this year’s crop of inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has got you covered. 

The induction ceremony is set for Friday in New York City, and promises its fair share of drama on and off the stage. But, hey, that’s rock and roll. 

While the ceremony is this week, most of us will not get to see it until the end of the month when it will be broadcast on HBO. 

Here’s a look at who is in and when you can see the ceremony.

What time: The induction ceremony is April 7 at the Barclays Center in New York City. The ceremony is sold out. The show will not air live. It will be broadcast at 8 p.m. ET on April 29.

What channel: HBO will air the ceremony.

Who are the 2017 inductees

  • Joan Baez
  • Electric Light Orchestra
  • Journey
  • Pearl Jam
  • Tupac Shakur
  • Yes
  • Nile Rodgers will receive the Award for Musical Excellence

How do you get in: According to the Hall of Fame, “Artists are eligible for inclusion in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first recording – 1991 for this year’s inductees. The 2017 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Performer Inductees were chosen by more than 900 voters, as well as the aggregate results of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s online fan vote.”

Any special guests: Of course, it’s rock and roll. Here are a few – Jackson Browne inducting Joan Baez; David Letterman inducting Pearl Jam; Rush's Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee inducting Yes; Dhani Harrison inducting ELO; Pat Monahan inducting Journey; Pharrell Williams inducting Nile Rodgers and Snoop Dogg inducting Tupac Shakur. Steve Perry is expected to join Journey at the induction, but he will not be performing with them, according to sources.

Others performing at the ceremony: Lenny Kravitz will honor Prince. Also performing are Alicia Keys, Mary Chapin Carpenter and the Indigo Girls.
