Stars to wear white roses at Grammys to support Time’s Up

Many attendees at this Sunday’s Grammy Awards are expected to continue the protest against sexual misconduct by attaching white roses to their outfits out of support for the Time’s Up initiative.

The flower-focused statement — first reported by Billboard — comes weeks after nearly every star who went to the Golden Globes wore black to spread the same empowering message.

Kelly Clarkson, Halsey, Cyndi Lauper and Rita Ora are among the stars taking part in the statement by either wearing a rose or showing support for the cause, according to Billboard. Dua Lipa, Tom Morello and Rapsody are also expected to participate in some manner.

Halsey took the podium Saturday at the Women’s March in New York City and shared a powerful poem discussing her own experiences with sexual assault, including enduring abuse as a child and being forced to have sex with a boyfriend.

“There is work to be done. There are songs to be sung. Lord knows there’s a war to be won,” she said.

The white rose idea was created and carried forward by a pair of female music execs — Meg Harkins of Roc Nation and Karen Rait of Interscope/Geffen/A&M — who were eager to find a way for Grammys participants to come together and send a message.

“It is an important conversation politically in our country and it’s also a conversation we need to have internally with our artists and our companies,” Harkins told the music outlet. “We need to say if anyone is feeling like they’re being discriminated against and they don’t feel safe in their workplace, they have people who will support them.”

Time’s Up launched at the beginning of the year, with 300 female entertainment figures coming together to sign an open letter in an effort to fight sexual misconduct and give a voice to the voiceless.

In addition to wearing black to the Golden Globes, many stars wore pins with the Time’s Up logo at the award show.

The Grammys take place Sunday at New York City’s famed Madison Square Garden.
