Super “Heroes” Finally Stop Jack Bauer

Are you on the list?

Apparently lots of people were.

In the first head-to-head showdown between “24” and “Heroes” from 9-10 p.m. Monday, it was the folks with the superpowers who won out. According to Nielsen’s fast national ratings, the first original episode of “Heroes” to air in nearly two months attracted 14.8 million viewers compared to the 14.4 million who tuned in to see “24’s” Jack Bauer deal with the fallout from a suitcase nuke and — worse — family issues.

Taking down Fox and “24” represents a major triumph for “Heroes.” But there was still good news for “24,” which scored better than the 14.2 million viewers who watched it on the same Monday night a year ago, when “Heroes” was only a gleam in NBC’s eye.

And apparently, characters who can bend time and fly still are no match for a couple of randy bachelors cracking off-color jokes. “Heroes,” which returned with a new storyline surrounding a list of mutants (hence the new catchphrase, “Are you on the list?”) was only the No. 2-ranked show from 9-9:30 p.m. Coming in at No. 1 with 16 million viewers was the CBS sitcom “Two and a Half Men,” starring Charlie Sheen.

Never have watched 24, so I can’t speak to it. I don’t typically like “serials” but I’ve been enjoying Heroes. It’s a good distraction from the all to real world.

Looks like 24 is trying to make sure a few white guys look guilty to appease the fanatical Muslims. If this keep up, I’ll be a Heroes fan too.

Heroes is for kids and 24 is for adults. Plain and simple.

As a fan of my own show, I decided to watch 24. However, last night’s storyline, didn’t too much for me, so I’ll probably watch Heros next week. Thank goodness for DVRs!!

I didn’t like the family twist to 24 last night…it’s taken a strange “soap opera” turn for the worst.

DVR’d 24 and Two and a Half Men. We HATE commercials! Heroes will rebroadcast Friday night on Sci Fi Channel. You can have your cake and eat it too, just have to check the TV Schedules each week.

With DVR’s the hottest thing around you can’t really go by the Neilsen’s rating anymore. So more people watched “Heroes”. I bet more than half of those recorded “24”. Jack Bauer is my HERO. Man I want that guys cell phone, never dies and always has a signal!!

All Hail the Power of Bauer!!!

I have tried to watch 24 several times and realized that if I wanted to see terrorists blow crap up, I’d just tune into the news. But I love Heroes and the storyline! Put me down for a little escapism in this reality based world.

P.S. Hey Ed…how old are you?

Youre right Horn Rimmed Glasses (HRG) would obliterate Bauer.

24: a show about 24 hours that has been on the air for 5 years too long.

24 rocks, haven’t watched the school aged superhero drama as of yet… it looks kinda geeky to me but I have never been a fan of the off the wall superhereos. I get my fill of that with spiderman and superman. That is enough for me.

By brooksdawgs

January 23, 2007 4:30 PM | Link to this

no he can’t fly or travel in time, but he can shoot and is the toughest SOB on the planet and 24 fans will always say he would eat your superheros for lunch.

Jack would vamp. psycho Nikki as he did the terrorist in the first episode of 24 this year

Hero rules dude - are you an NBC rep? Why do you have to be so juvenile? I am an avid watcher of 24 & Heroes - both GREAT shows that appeal to different intellect & emotions. Thank heavens for DVR so this conversation is basically meaningless.

Haven’t watched Heroes but love 24. Got hooked on it during the fall, watching DVDs of the previous 5 seasons. Last night’s episode was a HUGE shock which might provide some insight into why Jack is such a staunch American. It was a great show. Only downfall is waiting until next week for the next installment.

Yes it does it rhymes with Pharoahs. Who I believe are behind this ancient mystery. They are plotting to be the next rulers of the world. Hah Terrorists they have nothing on Pharoahs.

HEROES IS FANTANSY LAND!!! WHAT JACK DOES ON THE SHOW IS HAPPENING NOW !!! WHATS COOL ABOUT 24 IS THAT THERE ARE REAL LIFE MEN AND WOMEN WHO PROTECT US EVERY DAY FROM EVENTS LIKE THE SHOW IS BASED ON. IF WE DID NOT HAVE THESE MEN AND WOMEN TO PROTECT US WHO KNOWS WHAT CRAZY PEOPLE WOULD DO TO US.. ALL HAIL “THE POWER OF BAUER”

By Are you for real

I honestly feel like I have just wasted 10 minutes of my life reading some of these posts. HEROES RULES…open your door and step out of it. There is this place called reality. You should really look into it. I can only hope you were playing around with your posts. Hopefully they are not serious. Lets see which show is closer to reality…..24 deals with real life. Heroes…..well the title tells you. 24 hands down the best TV programming in the last 10 years. Well until the Sopranos went all gay on us.

Watched both, thanks to my dual-tuner DVR — Heroes earlier last night, 24 later last night. Both are great, but if I could only watch one it would be Heroes.

As for CBS: who even watches CBS anymore? I sure don’t…with the exception of Desperate Housewives, which is on ABC, literally everything I watch on the networks these days is on either NBC or Fox.

My post was my first ever on an ajc blog…..what a hoot. You guys need to get a life, especially if you don’t think that the catch phrase “save the cheerleader” is cheesy. BTW, heroes rhymes with zeroes, not pharoahs.

By KrisG

So, 24 can show muslims in a negative light, but not whites? Yet the offended Muslims are the fanatical ones? WOW. 24 has never been that simple, Grand Wizard ChrisD. If 24 had simple story lines, and all the bad guys were easy to spot, the show would suck. Like Heroes. I’ve read a lot of comics, and it reads like one of the crappy ones. Twists and turns alone can’t save the weak character development…. Whereas 24’s vibrant character interaction is what creates the show’s tension.
