The truth (truthiness?) can now be told: Bill O’Reilly and Stephen Colbert most definitely are not the same person.
We got the definitive proof Thursday night when they both appeared in the same place at the same time - twice - by guesting on each other’s hit cable shows. And for all their remarkable similarities (same dark suit with the merest hint of charcoal pinstripe, same dark and foreboding view of the world with nary a hint of self-doubt), one major difference stood out:
Colbert stabs you in the back. O’Reilly prefers the full frontal approach:
“It’s a very successful program that owes everything to me,” O’;Reilly, who got to fire first, said as he introduced the host of “The Colbert Report” on Fox News’ “The O’Reilly Factor.”
A little later to his guest, who was tongue-in-cheekily agreeing he was an O’Reilly ripoff: “Don’t you owe me an enormous amount of money?”
A little later, after bidding Colbert adieu: “Stephen Colbert owes his whole life to me”
Indeed. Some three hours later, Colbert couldn’t have been a more gracious host to the slightly resigned-looking visitor to his Comedy Central program. Oh, wait, maybe he could have been. Spying a copy of his latest book, “Culture Warrior” across the table, O’Reilly gamely asked, “Did you read my book?”
“Did I read your book?” This is a fantastic book,” Colbert enthused, holding up the book with a store’s “30 Percent Off” sticker prominently slapped across O’Reilly’s face on the cover. “By the way, you can get great deals at Barnes & Noble. This is, like, Day One, .I got 30 percent off.”
A little earlier, O’Reilly had tried to gin up a comic rivalry between Colbert and Jon Stewart, whose “The Daily Show” was a launching pad for “The Colbert Report.” Colbert visibly shuddered at the mention of his supposed mentor’s name - “We have a restraining order against Stewart” - to O’Reilly’s obvious delight.
“He’s jealous of you, Colbert,” O’Reilly crooned happily.
“He’s a sexual predator, that’s why I had to leave, Bill,” Colbert confided. “You have no idea what that’s like.”
Was that a not-so-subtle reference to a harrassment lawsuit brought against O’Reilly in October 2004 by a female former producer? You be the judge. (For the record, O’Reilly settled with the woman, Andrea Mackris, whose claims included that he had made explicit phone calls to her. O’Reilly also dropped an extortion suit he’d filed against Mackris and her lawyer. Both sides agreed to keep the settlement details confidential.)
Maybe Colbert was still stinging from a tense moment on O’Reilly’s show when the host had suggested the younger man was hiding the worst possible secret about himself.
“Col-BERT …” O’Reilly said, cocking his head suspiciously and training a laser stare on his guest. “That’s a French name, isn’t it…?”
Now you KNOW they’re not the same person.

I miss Bill’s radio show (on one of the AM sports stations)I disagree as much as I agree with him (I’m a Libertarian) but it was a good radio show and he had his Liberal co-host to keep him in check (a little bit)

Colbert is about as funny as a cup of cold vomit. Another talentless unfunny leftie like that arrogant narcissistic wanker Stewart. What the point of last night’s pointless vapid “chat” was is still unclear. Colbert came across as an egotistical moron.
O’Reilly is right on most topics and factually and logically humiliates most lefties he talks to. Although his smug papist views are rather hard to take. Which is why lefties hate him. he makes them look bilious and dishonest.
The notion that O’Reilly is a “liar and a douchebag” is simply more hysterical imbecilic moveon.org leftist bollocks, spewed by a cretin with no intellectual honesty whatever.
Ann Coulter also has the measure of cut and run lefties, even though she is usually way too soft on treasonous pinkos. Her smug religious dogma is also her intellectual achilles heel.

Chris, read “Liars and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them”, he’s on the cover. For those who don’t remember O’Reilly before the “No Spin Zone”, he was host of the prestigious program Inside Edition. To bolster the credibility of the show he made the erroneous claim (which he did not correct when brought to his attention, though he has corrected it on later occasions) that Inside Edition won two Peabody Awards when it was actually a single Polk award (won after he left the show) HAHA…

I realize that once again I have wasted all of your time in reading my silly little rants. I’ll just go ahead and admit it, I’m a phoney who has absolutely nothing better to do all day than to come out here and prove to the masses that I can use the dictionary and Thesaurus quite well.
I have serious self esteem issues, which is why I see it fit most times to put everyone else in the masses down, in order that I might increase my own stock. I love everyone who tries to make themselves feel better by perpetrating the lie that O’Reilly’s ratings are dropping. Anyone who takes a second to research the latest ratings release last week will see that O’Reilly’s show is the highest rated show on ALL cable news stations and continues to add viewers. Like him or not, you can’t overlook his success.
p.s. - The O’Reilly Factor has more than 3 times as many viewers as both Stewart’s and Colbert’s shows. Now, that’s the facts!!

In case you weren’t aware, O’Reilly isn’t competing with Stewart and Colbert…They are comedians, O’Reilly is supposed to be a journalist. As for the ratings, here are the Sargin numbers…
At 8 p.m. ET, Countdown with Keith Olbermann scored MSNBC’s highest full-year ratings ever for the time period, gaining an impressive 24% for the year (479,000), while CNN (-16%) and Fox News Channel (-15%) both posted double-digit declines…
Face it, O’Reilly is losing vewers and last night was nothing more that a publicity stunt.

O’Reilly’s ratings are at number one for those morons who say his ratings are dropping. All you have to do is check out the nielsen ratings or just call your cable provider. It’s that easy. He averages around 2.5 million/night. People on the left like NBC,ABC, etc… can’t stand him because he actually reports the truth. That’s something that the AJC and NYTimes can learn from. Some years ago when I first “discovered” his show, I could tell he was pretty much a partisan hack. But there were a few things about him that I liked.
But in the days immediately before the Iraq invasion he said that any Americans who kept protesting against the impending war, after the bombs started falling on Baghdad, were “unAmerican”.
That pretty much told me that this guy was about as reactionary as they come.
However, the very next night he came on and said that he had made a mistake about that statement last night. And in that moment I thought, “Hey, maybe this guy isn’t a complete loser!”
But alas, the hope was short lived. He went on to say that those people were not unAmerican, they were just “bad Americans”.
I still watch him occasionally, but anybody who gives him a lot of serious consideration on most matters is, IMHO, daft.

This conversation is quickly digressing…
Bottom line: most people take O’Reilly for what he is - an exhibitionist who loves to get people excited about non-issues. The “War Against Christmas” quickly comes to mind. Colbert, Stewart, Olbermann and Franken all get O’Reilly in a tizzy because they call him on his lies.
In truth, all our “news” programs are purely for entertainment and ratings. For real news you may as well go to the BBC or some other news outlet. We Americans need to stop treating these celebrities as purveyors of truth. At the end of the day, no matter if you’re on the left or right, it all comes down to ratings and money.

i was a editor on my high school’s yearbook staff several years back. we had a slightly retarded staff member that wrote mediocre copy and captions. he could have written this article four times shorter and with at least one coherent thought thrown in somwhere. why cant you? this paper is a rag

BTW, O’Reilly was completely out classed. He did not even catch half the put downs Colbert nailed him with. I did love the “Thanks for not talking about what we agreed not to talk about,” which Colbert said on O’Reilly’s show. So O’Reilly must have insisted the sexual harassment suit was off limits! The “John is a sex offender” was brilliant. The 30% stickers was comic genius! Poor Bill still doesn’t know what hit him!

Colbert’s show is Classic Parody. I know some folks just dont get it. Colbert waxed the floor with O’Reilly. I liked the part when Colbert ask “Who would win in a fight between Hannity and Oreilly”, and O’Reilly goes “We wouldn’t fight were Irish Guys” and Colbert’s says your Irish guys and you don’t want to fight” - that was Priceless. also the Sexual harassment jab was so smooth. Since 9/11 Americans have lost there way and sense of humor , Forget Left or Right Politics, in the End there screwing us all.

My humble interpretation of “time for the truth“‘s posting:
I realize that once again I have wasted all of your time in reading my silly little rants. I’ll just go ahead and admit it, I’m a phoney who has absolutely nothing better to do all day than to come out here and prove to the masses that I can use the dictionary and Thesaurus quite well. Liberals believe they are superior to me. I believe this because I am insecure about my intellect and views. I can’t defend them without lashing out.
I have serious self esteem issues, which is why I see it fit most times to put everyone else in the masses down, in order that I might increase my own stock. Please forgive my fake British @ss people, as I am only pretending to be as refined as I am. But then again how could I fool you? I’m sure you see through my high levels of crassness and various other displays of indecency that there really is nothing to my character or nothing in it quite worth respectiong. Liberals are poseurs whose sole purpose is to make me feel inferior. They are crass, indecent, and believe they are infallible; I however am civil, moral, and admit to my mistakes and shortcomings.
