‘CSI’ vs. ‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Which did you watch? Which did we watch?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
[an error occurred while processing this directive]Don’t try this at home, kids.
Take it from me:
It is possible to watch “Grey’s Anatomy” and “CSI” on different channels at the same time.
It is also mindbendingly stupid to watch “Grey’s Anatomy” and “CSI” on different channels at the same time.
No insult intended to anyone else out there who tried it. Like me, you probably had so much respect for the courage of two rival networks deciding to go to war with each other by scheduling their most awesomely powerful shows to air at 9 p.m. Thursday, you would’ve felt disloyal not to be willing to make a similar sort of sacrifice. Let all the others cower behind their VCR’s or TiVo. WE don’t cut-and-run!
Still, forgive me if I sound a bit cranky; that’s what happens when you drink 17 gallons of Diet Coke in an hour because you’re so nervous about what you’re attempting to do — AND too fearful of coming back late from a commercial break and missing something vital to visit the Little Serf’s Room once the entire time.
So instead, I sat right there, clicker in hand, and ended up missing plenty that was vital. Oh, I caught a few little things here and there, and even a couple of really big things: Most crucial, on “Grey’s,” Derek Shepherd, aka “Dr. McDreamy,” ditched his wife and ran wee-wee-wee all the way home to Meredith’s apartment, where he told her he luuurved her. It was incredibly moving, and the only thing that gave me the teensiest bit of pause was that he’d just spent hours in quarantine with nerdy little George after they’d both accidentally been exposed to The Plague. Next, McDreamy told Meredith to “take all the time you need” making up her mind about whether to be with him, which cinched it for me: No man who’s not suffering from a Plague-induced 108-degree fever could ever be that sensitive.
But other than that, “Grey’s” was all pretty much a clicker-flicking blur to me. I’m still not sure which little moppet in the plaid school uniform ended up being the mother of that premature infant or why poor Izzie finally got up off the floor where she had been forced to lie for the entire episode clad only in a strapless prom gown. Does this mean she’s starting to get over Denny’s death and to think about going back to saving lives? Or did actress Katherine Heigl just hire a tough new agent, who finally got ABC to agree to let her appear standing up in next week’s episode?
Things didn’t make much more sense on “CSI.” I kept clicking over just in time to see them weighing someone’s liver in the morgue or poking at the body of a dancer found at a Cirque du Soleil show — BUT SHE WASN’T A PART OF CIRQUE DU SOLEIL, a mystery-heightening plot point I’m sure couldn’t have been emphasized enough times in the episode to make both Cirque’s and CBS’s lawyers happy. Still, it pretty much seemed like bloody business as usual on TV’s No. 1 drama. If Grissom and Sara picked up where they had left off so shockingly at the end of last season — let’s just say horrified viewers caught them in flagrante de-lab coat and leave it at that — I missed it. If anyone knows otherwise, please inform me post haste. Even more important, someone please tell me what crucial ah-ha! moment I missed just before I flipped over to hear Warrick mutter, with Olivier-like intensity, “The gun was transported to the hotel room in the oven mitt. The only question is, who brought it to the party?”
Don’t ask me. I’m headed to the All-Night TiVo Store.
Right after I stop at the Little Serf’s Room.

Grey beats CSI. There’s too much crime on tv news anyway. Grey gives a good show and some real life possibilities. Good night time soap opera IMO.

I watched Grey’s lat night but should have watched CSI. Grey’s used to be fresh but now is getting kind a stale.
The Meridith thing going round and round is sinking the show. Enough already!

I watched CSI. Up until the last 10 minutes I thought the episode was humdrum, especially for a season opener. But that last 10 minutes! Katherine apparently was given a drugged drink at a bar and wakes up the next morning alone in a strange hotel room, evidently having been sexually assaulted. Grissom encounters a bloody crime scene that includes a miniature, almost dollhouse-like reproduction of the scene, duplicated down to the tiniest detail. Quite a cliffhanger.

I watched Greys Anatomy. The guy who plays the vetenerian is so good looking. The guy who played Eugene on the Practice acted his part well. I really felt for him.

Neither. I was watching “Murder City” on BBC America.

In the age of cable, why do broadcast networks insist on making us choose between shows? They could reduce the amount of programing necessary to fill up the prime time hours if they would just show programs more than once a week like cable networks do. That would make them more competitive for advertising dollars. We like Numbers, but during the football season won’t be around on Friday nights to see it and there will be no other opportunity. Studio 60 may or may not be a good show, but they put it opposite Amazing Race which is a huge hit so it may not survive – so show it again on another night.

CSI is a lot smarter and more intelligent than Grey’s. Grey’s is fluff and just another Melrose Place/Dallas/90210. It has no depth!!!

I watched CSI, because GA has become a soap opera. I disliked CSI because I hate cliff-hangers, and we’re left wondering what happened to Katherine and the miniature murder. Previously, if I missed a week, I didn’t miss anything or have to catch up. Now I do and I don’t like it.

the song Fray sang was “to save a life” or something like that. Good tune and goes well with the show.
Patrick Dempsey is a much better looking MAN than he was a BOY. When I first heard he was on that show I didn’t want to watch it, but now he is very handsome and much softer in is maturity.

CSI just keeps getting darker and darker…I’m almost uncomfortable watching it anymore. That said, I love Grey’s. I only got addicted this summer during reruns (I used to tease my coworkers about their addictions).
I cried when Christina wept to Burke. I think I need a support group.

I watched CSI, I love that show. I thought it was pretty slow at the beginning but really enjoyed the cliff hanger. I also liked the way they did Grissom and Sara last night. I have my tivo running all week on the new shows. Did anyone see ER last night? I sat there and cried!

I watched Grey’s. I did like CSI and watched it for the first few seasons. It got real old to have the bad guy leave one small piece of evidence at every crime scene and someone always found it.

Watched Grey’s - was disappointed. Tired of everyone thinking the “romance” between Meredith and McDreamy is ok. He’s married, and don’t start with his wife had an affair so it is ok for him to. Everyone is supposed to be so sympathetic to her. It was different when she didn’t know he had a wife. By the way, Go Tech - can’t wait to see them in Athens either - beating up on those Dawgs (of course, should know that UGA fans don’t know the correct spelling for DOGS.)

Grey’s Anatomy is for airheads who listen to Star94…nothing more than eye candy…
CSI was number one in the Nielsens for several years for a reason…
However, I do find the twist with Catherine being drugged and apparently date-raped rather unsettling…

To add to above post:
At least CSI’s audience is so intelligent, CBS doesn’t have to buy off morning DJ’s like ABC/Disney did at Q100 and V103…

I agree. I thought I was the only one that can’t stand McDreamy. They try to make him like a stand up guy and he’s not. He initially never told Meredith he was married. When she does find out FROM HIS WIFE he dumps her to be with the wife. Then he cheats on the wife with her. This guys is scum.

I watched Grey Anatomy. However, I was a little disappointed. There were tooooo many story lines wrapped up into the one hour.
Sandra Oh’s last scene was horrible. Trying to cry??? She can do better.
What was the purpose of the plague? The only outcome was McDreamy having a revalation. He could have had that driving to the house.

Thank God for CSI, granted they had a lackluster season six, seven is gearing up to be the best yet.
People can say what they want about Grissom and Sara, but if they were on Grey’s they would be married, divorced, and cheating on their spouses with one another by now.
If I want soaps, I can stay at home and eat bon bons, The rotating relationship door at Grey’s is going to get old fast. Like housewives I expect it to blow up thanks to the excess hype and then fizzle away when people realize how horrible the story lines can be.

Both shows are fair, somewhat decently written, but neither rises above what’s been done before, nor do either really challenge the viewer.

it’s just TV— no need to overanalyze—accept the fluff you prefer and don’t watch the other. Bottom line—still ALL FLUFF. want some true substance, then read some literature and use your brain instead of zoning out to the screen.

Calling Ben Casey! Calling Ben Casey! Okay, there isn’t much on regular TV these days that sparks much of an interest for me. I’m old and apparently have pretty much seen every original idea that has ever existed since all that seems to be out there are the same formula shows.
That said, I watched Gray’s instead of CSI because, quite simply, I lost interest in CSI when it started going all sci-fi and then seemed to completely lose its identity.
And the only reason I watched Gray’s is because my wife wrestled the remote out of my hand. I actually fell asleep before it was over.

I used to Love ER and would stop what I was doing to watch it. The last year or so, they turned it into a bed hopping show with a little ER in between so I gave up on it. Looks like Grey’s is heading on down that road so I watch if there is noting else going on.
Now Shark is a keeper and I’ll watch that over anything else.

I watched GA…very disappointed. Don’t find McDreamy dreamy at all. And his “take all the time you need” speech to Meredith is just another ploy to keep her hanging on while he keeps Addison around…And what’s up w/ George taking relationship advice from Derek. Tell Callie you love her before you lose her…yeah, that’s a great idea. The thought of Dr. Bailey AKA “The Nazi” and Cristina losing their edge…yikes, scary! Their fiestyness and no-holds-barred attitudes is why I liked their characters. Please don’t change them. Cynicism rules!

I have been a CSI fan since its beginning. I also watched Grey’s. I chose CSI, and still think it is a better drama. The plot line is more complicated than the Desperate Housewives & Grey fare. I went to ABC.com and saw the mini recap of Grey and that cured my curiosity. It will be CSI for me.

They both suck, too many cop and hospital shows on tv these days its as if the soaps are now on all day and night. Give us a break like how about a non continuous show that ends after an hour and you dont have to watch every week. Television survived at night before these night time soaps.
