3 technical colleges merge to become Chattahoochee Tech

Effective Wednesday, the Chattahoochee, North Metro and Appalachian technical colleges will merge to become the Chattahoochee Technical College.

The merger is one of several happening around the state. The goal is to save money by cutting back on administrative costs while also giving students access to more programs, said Mike Light, spokesman for the Technical College System of Georgia. The merger won’t eliminate programs or close any campuses, he said.

When the mergers are done the system will go from 33 colleges to 26, saving about $3.5 million, Light said.

The new Chattahoochee Technical College will serve about 10,000 students on eight campuses in six counties, including Cobb and Cherokee.
