The eastbound lanes of Ga. 316 in Gwinnett County were shut down during the morning commute Wednesday while police investigated a fatal wreck involving two tractor-trailers and two cars. The lanes reopened about 10:20 a.m.

The crash occurred about 5 a.m. near Harbins Road in Dacula, Gwinnett police Cpl. Illana Spellman said.

Spellman said preliminary indications showed the driver of a white Mercury traveling west on Ga. 316 “somehow made contact” with a tractor-trailer that was also westbound.

The Mercury crossed the median and collided with an eastbound truck and a second passenger car, Spellman said.

The male driver of the Mercury was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, Spellman said. His name was being withheld until relatives could be notified.

No other serious injuries were reported.
