Southbound traffic was still backed up at midday.

Cobb police spokesman Dana Pierce said a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe "somehow made contact" with a pickup truck pulling a large trailer.

The pickup flipped off the interstate and down a ravine and caught fire, while the trailer overturned but remained on the highway. The trailer, which was hauling a non-toxic glue, also burned.

The two men in the pickup truck were taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, Pierce said.

After the collision, the Tahoe slammed into a guardrail. That driver was also treated for minor injuries at Kennstone.

Pierce said the Tahoe driver would be charged with failure to maintain lane, and both drivers would be cited for insurance or registration violations.

Pierce said two southbound lanes of the interstate were reopened to traffic within about an hour of the crash, but two other lanes remained closed at noon. He said those lanes should reopen before the afternoon commute.
