STAFF REPORT
Friday, March 27, 2009
Traffic on I-285 on the west side of Atlanta was gridlocked late Friday morning after a logging truck accident shut down all lanes in both directions.
Two northbound lanes were reopened shortly after 11 a.m., about an hour after the wreck, but all southbound lanes remained blocked at 11:15 a.m.
The accident, which happened about 10 a.m. between Hollowell Parkway and the I-20 interchange, left logs strewn across the interstate, the Georgia Department of Transportation said.
Southbound traffic was being diverted at Hollowell Parkway, with northbound traffic detoured onto I-20.
Cobb County police Sgt. Dana Pierce said the entrance ramps to I-285 southbound, from I-75 to the wreck site, were also closed at the request of the Georgia State Patrol.
The DOT said four vehicles were involved, but it was unclear if anyone was injured.
