Tyler Perry aims to expand studios on southside

An executive with Tyler Perry Studios said Thursday that the company plans to expand its operations in southwest Atlanta.

Will Areu, a Perry executive, told the board of the Georgia Department of Economic Development that Perry is working on a plan to expand its campus near Greenbriar Mall.

Perry, a director, writer, producer and director, has developed the “Madea” film series and television series including “Meet the Browns.”

The scope of the plans was not revealed, however Areu said Perry controls 30 acres adjacent to his 38-acre campus.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution also has reported that a firm with ties to Perry had made multiple land purchases in Douglas County near Sweetwater Creek, about 10 miles west of Six Flags Over Georgia.

Perry told the board he has invested $200 million in Georgia through his various entertainment ventures.
