The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Norcross-based Suniva on Thursday was named the Renewable Energy Exporter of the Year by the U.S. Export-Import Bank. The company, which makes silicon solar cells, last year exported more than 90 percent of its products to Asia and Europe.

Suniva has created more than 150 jobs and is planning a second manufacturing facility in Michigan.

The award was presented at the Ex-Im Bank’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C.  President Obama attended the event and was introduced by John Baumstark, Suniva’s chief executive. The president has called for a doubling of U.S. exports as a way to produce jobs, improve U.S. standard of living and reduce the nation’s trade deficit.
