Start saving, soccer moms: Lamborghini may build SUV
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
It would be the ultimate status symbol for soccer moms dropping their kids off at practice: a Lamborghini SUV.
AutoWeek magazine reports that the Italian carmaker – best known for its ultra-high-end sports cars – will unveil a "teaser" for the SUV at the Beijing auto show in late April.
"I can't comment in detail but the speculation in the press is largely correct," Autoweek quoted an official from Audi, which owns Lamborghini, as saying.
AutoWeek said Lamborghini officials expect the SUV would have annual sales of less than 1,500 units and would target the United States and China.
No price range for the SUV -- which would be powered by a V-10, 580-horsepower engine -- is mentioned, but it will probably be pricier than, say a Kia Sorrento, if Lamborghini’s other models are any indication. The Gallardo, the cheaper of Lamorghini’s two models, has an MSRP of $212,000, while the Aventador goes for $376,000.
