Ports traffic to and from Atlanta: $7.7 billion last year

Ship cargo that passed into and out of Metro Atlanta was valued at $7.7 billion last year, the Georgia Ports Authority announced Wednesday, highlighting the importance of the ports at Savannah and Brunswick to the local economy.

“The impacts of Georgia’s deepwater ports reach every corner of this state,” Doug Marchand, the ports’ executive director, said during the Georgia Chamber’s Cornerstone Luncheon at the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center. “Our ports connect our state’s economy to the markets of the world and spur growth and opportunity for all Georgians.”
In all, the two ports handled $104 billion worth of imports and exports during the last fiscal year. Fulton County alone shipped $3.6 billion through Savannah and Brunswick.
