McPherson redevelopment plan approved

A redevelopment plan for Fort McPherson, which is scheduled to close soon, has been approved by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The 488-acre base has 153 acres of green space 314 acres for sale to developers, plus a new veterans clinic.
The agencies behind the redevelopment expect 127 acres to be used for a bio-science research and development center, more space will facilitate 1,780 new homes. The property abuts two MARTA train stations and is near Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
“While the purposes of this unique property will change from military to civilian, one thing won’t: Its value as a tremendous asset for economic development in the state,” Gov. Nathan Deal said. “We believe the size of the site and its proximity to transportation, a major airport, interstates and MARTA, lends itself to a wide variety of uses and makes it very attractive to potential investors.”
State and local governments have authorized a number of tax breaks that will help developers and those who bring jobs to the site.
