Judge throws out permit for Cobb EMC-backed coal plant
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Opponents of a new coal plant in Middle Georgia won a round Thursday.
State Administrative Law Judge Ronit Walker ordered the state Environmental Protection Division to reconsider an air permit for a proposed $2.1 billion new coal plant in Sandersville.
The coal plant is the project of a small group of electric cooperatives called Power4Georgians. The group is led by Marietta-based Cobb EMC, which is so far also bearing most of its development costs.
In a statement, Power4Georgians said it intended to continue to pursue the power plant.
The group said it didn't yet know its legal strategy going forward.
