Hartsfield-Jackson has delays, but no flooding problems

Some flights are being delayed at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport due to the storms, but the airport is not encountering problems with flooding, according to airport officials.
The airport’s runways are grooved and designed to allow water to drain quickly, said spokeswoman Katena Carvajales. Drainage systems are also built into safety areas between runways and taxiways, she said.
Some flights arriving at Hartsfield-Jackson are being delayed by an average of nearly an hour under a traffic management program due to the weather, according to the Federal Aviation Administration’s website. Because of the arrival delays, some flight departures may also be delayed, and travelers should check their flight status on their airline’s website.
Some Delta Air Lines flights were being delayed by 30 to 40 minutes Monday afternoon, said Delta spokesman Anthony Black. “We expect that to continue for a large part of the day,” Black said. Atlanta-based Delta is the largest carrier at Hartsfield-Jackson.
