Gold Room to fill spot vacated by Gold Club

More gold is coming to Buckhead next month.

It's the Gold Room, a nightclub and lounge scheduled to open at the site that was once home to the Gold Club. The Atlanta strip bar was shut down by the feds eight years ago after its owners confessed to federal racketeering charges.  Ironically, the next tenant was a church. The property became a vacant eyesore once the church moved out.

This time, the building at Piedmont and Lindbergh is being renovated by new owners Jonathan Clay and John Frasier of F&C  Buckhead Inc.

The exact opening date has not been determined, but a soft launch of the Gold Room is planned for Halloween.

While the history of the building and  its impact on Atlanta are undeniable, "We're not celebrating it, but we can't ignore it," the new owners said in a statement released Monday.

The Gold Room will serve more as a lounge with a focus on signature cocktails and a high-end customer service experience, the new owners say. Later in the evening, it will transform into more of a nightclub experience.

"It's part of our city's past, and we hope to make our venue a sophisticated nightlife destination unlike any other in Atlanta that represents the future," Clay said in the statement.

Jason Dauble, formerly general manager of the W Atlanta in Buckhead, has been hired as general manager of the Gold Room.
