Gas prices continue to climb in Georgia

Gas prices in Georgia are continuing their steady rise.

The average price for a gallon of unleaded regular stood at $3.55 Monday, up 3 cents from a week ago and 45 cents from this time a year ago, according to AAA.
The price has risen 15 cents a gallon in the past month.
Georgia's average price is just slightly below the national average of $3.56, which is the highest price ever for this time of year, the Associated Press reported. Since January, a gallon of gas has risen 25 cents per gallon.
The increase in gas prices is tied to the rise in oil prices, which have climbed as much as 11 percent due to tensions with Iran, cold weather in Europe and increasing demand from developing nations, the AP said.
The cheapest gas in Georgia can be found in the Augusta area, at $3.51 a gallon. The most expensive is Savannah at $3.59. Metro Atlanta's average price is $3.54 a gallon.
In the metro Atlanta area, the cheapest gas, $3.43 a gallon, is being sold at the Costco at Cumberland Mall, according to gasbuddy.com. The most expensive is $3.79 at several stations in Fulton and DeKalb.
