Former Macy's building gets $12 million
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The group redeveloping the former Macy’s building downtown has received $12 million in funding from Imagine Downtown, an affiliate of the Atlanta Development Authority.
The funding will be used to continue redeveloping the 80-year-old building. The department store closed in 2003, leaving a large vacant storefront along Peachtree Street.
A group called 200 Peachtree is spending a total of $35 million to redevelop the first three floors of the store. It already opened an event space and a Meehan’s pub. Sweet Georgia’s Juke Joint is scheduled to open this fall. .
The new funding will be used to build a conference center, meeting rooms, retail space, and a space for art shows and corporate events called The Gallery. Plans also call for connecting the former Macy’s to the Westin hotel to link up with the meeting space.
