Foreclosure notices increase in metro Atlanta

Published foreclosure notices in metro Atlanta increased by 10 percent in May, when compared to the same period last year, and 1 percent from April, a good sign says the company that collects the data.

There were 9,587 foreclosure notices published in the 13-county metro area, according to Equity Depot, an Alpharetta-based real estate information company.
“I think it’s safe to say we’re no longer showing the sustained increases we’ve seen over the last few years,” said Barry Bramlett, president of Equity Depot. “The question is still how long will these huge numbers continue?”
Equity Depot tracks notices published each month for public auctions scheduled for the following month. May’s numbers count the homes set for auction in June.
Residential real estate experts say there won’t be sustained improvement in the number of notices published notices or the number of actual foreclosures as long as unemployment numbers are high.
This month Gwinnett led the metro area with 2,022 published notices. Fulton was next with 1,852 published notices. DeKalb posted 1,419, Cobb had 1,115 and Clayton published 805, according to Equity Depot.
