Delta, US Airways get more time to decide on slot swap
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Delta Air Lines and US Airways have another month to decide whether to go ahead with a proposed swap of flying rights in Washington, D.C. and New York under terms allowed by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The two airlines requested and were granted a 30-day extension of a deadline to notify the federal government of whether they will proceed with their slot swap under the DOT's terms. They now have until July 2 to decide.
"We asked for the additional time just so that we have the opportunity to review all of the possible options," said Delta spokesman Trebor Banstetter.
The DOT declined to approve the slot swap under terms proposed by US Airways and Atlanta-based Delta, and instead said it would only approve a deal if the carriers sell slot pairs to airlines with little or not service at those airports according to the DOT's terms. Delta and US Airways in May said they would appeal the decision to the U.S. Court of Appeals.
