Delta ranked 6th for January on-time performance

Delta Air Lines ranked sixth in the nation for on-time performance in January, among 18 airlines ranked by the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
Atlanta-based Delta had an 81.4 percent on-time arrival rate in the month, including for the first time the operations of merger partner Northwest Airlines. Delta officially combined flight operations with Northwest at the end of last year.
AirTran Airways, which is based in Orlando and has its largest hub in Atlanta, was ranked 10th with a 79.5 percent on-time arrival rate. Hawaiian Airlines was the top-ranked carrier.
Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport came in 16th for on-time performance in January, up from the No. 24 spot a year earlier. Seattle had the top-ranked airport for on-time performance.
Delta had the two longest tarmac delays in the country in January, including a more then four-hour tarmac delay on a Charlotte-to-Atlanta flight Jan. 24. Atlanta had severe rainstorms that day.
