Atlanta-based Delta is applying for the slots at the centrally-located Tokyo airport as they are opened up to U.S. carriers under a proposed Open Skies aviation treaty between the United States and Japan. It will compete with other carriers for the four available slots. Delta does not currently fly to Haneda, a popular airport for business travelers in Tokyo.
Delta already flies from Atlanta and other cities to Tokyo's Narita International Airport. The cities in Delta's application for Haneda service would allow passengers to connect from points around the United States on their way to Asia.
