Data bank bullish on future with planned expansion
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The operator of several data banks around the nation is expanding one of its metro Atlanta locations, saying the company sees strong future business.
Quality Technology Services (QualityTech ) of Kansas City is spending $50 million to create an additional 200,000 square feet for its data center at 1033 Jefferson Street, said Dan Kurtz, executive vice president of marketing.
It's the second time in as many years that the company, which has its operational headquarters in Suwanee, has expanded. Kurtz said QualityTech added 200,000 square feet in 2007 because of the storage needs of business, everything from Fortune 500 companies to small mom-and-pop concerns.
"The demand for that has been fairly great so this is the time to build out more," he said.
The latest increase could attract anywhere from 20 to 100 jobs depending on the needs of potential clients, Kurtz said. About 50 jobs were created from the last expansion QualityTech employs about 200 people overall in metro Atlanta.
Ken Stewart, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development said the decision to expand downtown reflects the area's "economic vitality."
"The comprehensive, state-of-the-art service QualityTech Provides, packaged with business advantages like Hartsfield-Jackson (international Airport) and ready access to the region's talent, is exactly what cutting-edge companies seek to compete with the best."
