US military: airstrike kills 1 in northeast Iraq

The U.S. military says an American airstrike killed one gunman after a joint U.S.-Iraqi patrol was attacked northeast of Baghdad.

The military says five gunmen attacked the patrol Wednesday as it was searching a building in the town of Sadiyah in the volatile Diyala province.

It says the airstrike was called in following a firefight between the joint patrol and the gunmen.

The military says at least one gunmen was killed in the airstrike and that two others were arrested.

Sadiyah is 60 miles, or 95 kilometers, northeast of Baghdad.
