You, too, can be a star
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The old song “Video Killed the Radio Star” (remember The Buggles?) now seems more dated than ever. YouTube, the Web viral video phenomenon, has spawned its first star. According to Variety, Carson Daly signed Brooke “Brookers” Brodack, a 20-year-old with numerous YouTube fans, to a development deal, working on content for TV, Internet and mobile. Brodack’s long list of videos includes “Numa,” a parody of a video by the Romanian boy band O-Zone. Her vid has been watched more than 1 million times, Variety reports.
Others have gained attention through online video antics, including MTV’s Andy Milonakis. However, Variety notes Brodack is the first star from red-hot YouTube.
As YouTube, MySpace and related social networking sites continue to grow in popularity, it’ll be interesting to see who the next “stars” will be. Simon and the “American Idol” crew may have a whole new source of competition.
Some quick tidbits:
— More ways not to be productive at work: There are innumerable places to watch World Cup action online. For those who prefer golf, you can watch live streaming video from the 6th and 10th holes of the U.S. Open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern on Thursday and Friday.
— And, at the risk of prompting more comments on tracking your kids, Disney has soft-launched its mobile phone service mentioned below.

Every media source talking about Brooke Brodack — from your magazine to TV.com to Forbes any number of local gazettes — has the name of her video listed incorrectly. The video referred to on YouTube is ‘Numa’ (not ‘Zuma’). If you work for AJC.com and you read this note, I invite you to be the first media outlet to “check your facts” and make a correction. If I could tell Carson Daly that their press release was wrong, I’d do it, but I can’t.

Brooke, you have done a very fine job! Just keep making your video shorts and sharing them with us (the general public). We are your biggest supporters! You are talented and I have enjoyed watching you! :-) EKTO753
