ChristChurch Presbyterian in Buckhead bought 1.16 acres at 25th and Peachtree streets, where it will build a new sanctuary.

ChristChurch paid $8 million for the site near the Amtrak station and I-85, according to Databank. The seller was Brown College, a court-reporting school, which plans to move out by the end of the year.

The Rev. Paul Gardner said the 14-year-old church will move its offices into the new location in November and hopes to have the sanctuary built within three years.

ChristChurch now occupies a former restaurant building on Peachtree Park Drive near Piedmont Hospital that can seat about 500 people. Gardner said the new sanctuary will seat 800 to 1,000 people.

Some parking will be on-site; the rest will be on nearby lots.

Gardner said the new building will be recognizable as a church but “will have an urban feel to it” and serve several functions.

IN THE WORKS

A $200 million continuing care retirement community in Buckhead called Peachtree Hills Place is scheduled to break ground in the spring.

The development, at Peachtree Hills Avenue and Virginia Place where the Peachtree Hills Apartments used to be, will have 266 villa-type homes and eight free-standing residences.

Entrance fees will cost $573,300 to more than $1 million. Members also will pay a monthly fee ranging from $3,115 to $6,765. Amenities include 36 skilled nursing and memory care suites, a clubhouse, fitness center and greenhouse.

When a member moves or dies, 90 percent of the entrance fee will be refunded.

The developer is Norcross-based Isakson-Barnhart. Life Care Services LLC will manage the facility.
