Bernie Marcus is going into the TV biz today —- if only for a day.
The Home Depot co-founder turned philanthropist will host CNBC's "Squawk Box" business show from 7 to 9 a.m. out of New York, conducting his own interviews.
On Marcus' lineup: Ken Langone, another Home Depot co-founder who also served as a director of the New York Stock Exchange, and Frank Blake, Home Depot's current CEO. This will be Blake's first extended television interview since he became CEO last year.
The idea arose in May when "Squawk Box" came to Atlanta to broadcast from the World of Coca-Cola and the Georgia Aquarium. As the aquarium's benefactor, Marcus was interviewed along with other local executives.
Producers asked Marcus if he would be willing to be a guest host in the near future. Marcus jumped at the chance and even offered to invite a few colleagues.
Marcus spokeswoman Donna Fleishman said Langone will talk about why they could not repeat Home Depot's success if they were starting today. Blake will talk about the current and future issues facing Home Depot.
