UPS, as part of its stated goal to capture the fast-growing markets in Eastern Europe, has bought a delivery agent in Slovenia.
UPS, based in Sandy Springs, bought a unit of Intereuropa Globalni Logisticni Servis that has been delivering its small packages since 1991.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“UPS needs a greater presence in this dynamic market,” said Wolfgang Flick, UPS’s European division president.
UPS spokesman John Flick (the two Flicks are not related) said, “We had some ‘Brown’ vehicles in the capital. Now we’re talking about much stronger branding.” In the last 18 months, he said, UPS also bought agents in Poland and Romania, and already owns companies in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. “We’re going market by market.”
Slovenia, a member of the European Union, has had a stable economy and is considered an Eastern European success story.
