Aflac, QuickTrip, NuStar, PCL Construction among the top 50

Fortune magazine’s annual list of the 100 Best Companies to Work For is out and some perennial Georgia firms — Aflac and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta — made the ranking. But they were joined by some newcomers, NuStar Energy and PCL Construction Enterprises, and other firms with major operations in Georgia.
Google, the search engine juggernaut that held the No. 1 perch in which it debuted in 2007, was kicked out of the top spot to land at No. 4.
NetApp, a storage and data management company at 14 last year replaced Google. Here are the firms with Georgia ties and their ranking:
• Aflac* (Columbus) — Seller of supplemental and cancer insurance. No. 26 (up from No. 30 in 2008)
• QuikTrip (Atlanta) — Gasoline and convenience store chain. No. 27 (up from No. 28 in 2008)
• PCL Construction Enterprises (Cartersville) — Employee-owned building construction conglomerate. No. 28 (up from No. 77 in 2008)
• Alston & Bird* (Atlanta) — Storied, 115-year-old Atlanta law firm. No. 36 (down from No. 31 in 2008)
• NuStar Energy (Savannah) — Pipeline operator and refinery. No. 44 (previously unranked)
• Deloitte (Atlanta) — Accounting firm. No. 61 (up from No. 95 in 2008)
• Milliken (LaGrange) — Among the largest U.S. textile manufacturers. No. 64 (up from No. 92 in 2008)
• Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta* (Atlanta) — Pediatric hospital. No. 67 (down from No. 45 in 2008)
• Bright Horizons (Atlanta) — Child care, early education and work-life consulting firm. No. 80 (up from No. 89 in 2008)
