Kmart at 1140 Roswell Road near Cobb Parkway in Marietta is closing.

The store began liquidating its stock Sunday. Doors close for good Jan. 4, according to Kim Freely, a Kmart spokeswoman.

The store, in operation at the same location since 1964, “is closing for underperformance,” Freely said. No other Georgia Kmarts are scheduled to close, she added, although a half-dozen others across the country will also shut their doors.

The bargain retailer’s 65 employees will be offered jobs at nearby Sears and Kmart stores. The Sears Holding Corp., headquartered in Illinois, also owns Kmart.

In August, Sears Holding reported a 62 percent drop in second-quarter profits.

Customers can save 10-30 percent during the Roswell Road store’s liquidation.
