Trader Joe’s plans to open a store in Buckhead, adding another gourmet grocer to the upscale neighborhood.

The store will be at 3183 Peachtree Road N.E., just north of the Buckhead Triangle, according to an e-mailed newsletter sent to customers Wednesday. That’s not far from the now-shuttered eatZi’s, a popular gourmet takeout market that closed in November 2006.

The opening date for the Monrovia, Calif.-based chain’s sixth store in metro Atlanta hasn’t been announced. But when Trader Joe’s does start offering its selection of private label snacks, prepared foods, frozen meals and inexpensive wines, it will face stiff competition from several other gourmet markets just blocks away, including Whole Foods Market, the Fresh Market, Savor Specialty Foods and a new upscale Kroger concept, Fresh Fare, opening this fall.

Trader Joe’s could not immediately be reached for comment.
