Dial-up Internet provider EarthLink swung to a second-quarter profit of $53.3 million, or 48 cents a share, from a loss of $16.3 million, or 13 cents a share a year ago.
The profit boost came despite a 21.2 percent drop in revenue, to $245.6 million, for the quarter ended June 30.

It was the second straight quarterly profit for EarthLinkafter losses in 2007. Executives said in a news release that they expected a drop in revenue as the company continues to shed dial-up customers.
But the company again raised its full-year net profit forecast to between $275 million to $290 million.
EarthLink CEO Rolla Huff said the company continues to benefit from long-term customers. Huff, who has said he wants to return the company's focus to dial-up Internet, is cautiously optimistic about EarthLink's future.
"As our revised guidance also indicates, while we expect to see continued improvements in the business, we do not expect them to be at the magnitude of the prior quarters," Huff said in a statement.
