Last year, Beazer Homes USA was No. 420 on the Fortune 500 list of top corporations. In the new list released Monday, Beazer doesn't even crack the top 1,000.

The company is in the process of restating earlier financial reports, so there's no data Fortune can use to rank Beazer, spokeswoman Leslie Kratcoski said.

"We're absent from the list because we haven't filed our fiscal 2007 financial statements," Kratcoski said. The company expects to release revised financial information before May 15.

In 2006, Beazer was the nation's seventh-biggest home builder. Since then, the company has downsized after homeowner defaults in the Charlotte area came to light, triggering investigations. Beazer has admitted that employees violated federal lending regulations.

The company's business and stock price plunged. Beazer cut its work force in half, quit making loans and pulled out of five housing markets, including Charlotte, the only metro area where home prices have gone up since early 2007, according to the most recent S&P/Chase-Shiller index. It still has 1,700 employees, including 250 in Georgia, and does business in 19 states.

As in 2007, the top three Georgia companies in the Fortune list are Home Depot, which dropped from 17th to 22nd; UPS, which slipped from 43rd to 46th; and Coca-Cola, which rose from 94th to 83rd.

Another housing-related Georgia company, supplies distributor BlueLinx Holdings, fell out of the top 500, dropping from 456th to 568th.

Mirant, an Atlanta-based energy company, also dropped off the top 500, landing at 708th.

All told, the number of Georgia companies in the Fortune 500 dropped to 12, from 15 in 2007. The number in the top 1000 held steady at 26.

Nationally, retail behemoth Wal-Mart weighed in at No. 1, followed by oil giants Exxon Mobil and Chevron.

The Georgia companies in the 2008 Fortune 500 are:
1. Home Depot (22nd)
2. UPS (46th)
3. Coca-Cola (83rd)
4. Coca-Cola Enterprises ( 118th)

7. Southern Co. (166th)
8. SunTrust Banks (193rd)
