The developer of Atlantic Station, Jacoby Development, plans to convert the old Hapeville Ford plant into a 6.5 million-square-foot mixed use project with retail and office space but no residences.
Jacoby will present its plans next week to the Atlanta Regional Commission and the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority.
The Ford plant used to produce Tauruses but closed in October 2006, displacing 2,000 workers.
A companion project called Asbury Park will have 2,104 apartments, condominiums and townhomes and neighborhood businesses.
Asbury Park will also face ARC and GRTA review. The developer of that project is Interciti Partners of Cumming.
The Ford buildings will be demolished and in their place will go 1.6 million square feet of retail space, including hotel rooms; 2 million square feet of office space; 4,000 airport parking spaces; and a 500,000-square-foot telecommunications center.
Work on the project could begin this year and completion is estimated to be in 2020.
