Coca-Cola Co. chairman and CEO Neville Isdell will step down from the board of directors for SunTrust Bank Inc., according to an SEC filing made Friday.
The resignation becomes effective April 29, the same day of SunTrust's annual shareholders meeting. Isdell is preparing to turn over the Coca-Cola CEO position on July 1 to Muhtar Kent, Coca-Cola's president and chief operating officer.
"As Mr. Isdell oversees the leadership transition at The Coca-Cola Company, he is adjusting his business priorities and commitments and has determined that this is the right time to exit as a SunTrust director," SunTrust said in the SEC filing.
SunTrust and Coca-Cola, both Atlanta-based companies, have a relationship that stretches back decades. The bank's predecessor, the Trust Company of Georgia, helped underwrite Coca-Cola's initial public stock offering in 1919. A SunTrust bank vault holds the secret formula for Coca-Cola.
