Coke takes some Smith Newton electric trucks
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Coca-Cola Enterprises was one of six companies to take delivery Tuesday of all-electric Smith Newton commercial trucks made by Smith Electric Vehicles.
Atlanta-based CCE, the largest bottler of Coca-Cola products, will pilot two trucks in New York and two in Washington, D.C.
The Smith Newton truck converts the kinetic energy produced during braking into electric power that can be stored in a battery. It has a top speed of 50 mph, a range on one battery charge in excess of 100 miles and a payload of more than 16,000 pounds.
Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Staples, Frito-Lay, AT&T and Kansas City Power & Light also will be using the trucks.
