AT&T and Verizon agree to dismiss lawsuit over ads
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Atlanta-based AT&T Mobility and Verizon have agreed to dismiss a lawsuit over Verizon ads, the AJC has learned. AT&T claimed the ads mislead the public about AT&T's coverage.
U.S. Federal District Judge Timothy Batten Sr. ruled two weeks ago that the "There's a map for that" Verizon commercials, which began airing in October, were "sneaky" but not misleading, and encouraged AT&T to drop the suit.
AT&T claims the commercials confuse consumers into thinking that AT&T's cell phone coverage in the U.S. is a fraction of Verizon's.
In fact AT&T's coverage, with 81 million customers, rivals the coverage of Verizon, which has 89 million customers.
