AirTran signs Melanie Oudin to endorsement deal
Marietta tennis star will be featured in Atlanta billboards
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
AirTran Airways announced that it has signed on young tennis star Melanie Oudin of East Cobb to endorse the airline in radio ads and on billboards.
Seventeen-year-old Oudin gained national fame this month as the youngest quarterfinalist in the U.S. Open since Serena Williams in 1999.
The first billboard featuring Oudin went up earlier this week, said AirTran spokesman Christopher White. “We expect to have a full campaign in Atlanta,” White said.
Oudin has other endorsement deals with Adidas, Wilson and South Harwich, Mass.-based data mining company BackOffice Associates.
Orlando-based AirTran, which has its largest hub in Atlanta and is the second-largest carrier at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, has a roster of celebrity endorsers. They include IndyCar driver Danica Patrick, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, Atlanta Thrasher Ilya Kovalchuk and Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning.
AirTran and Oudin’s publicist declined to disclose terms of the deal.
