Airline group files appeal of ruling on labor rule change
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The Air Transport Association, a major airline lobbying group, filed an appeal Wednesday of a judge's ruling that allowed a federal labor rule change to go into effect. The new labor rule, which went into effect July 1, could make it easier for unions to organize workers, including at Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines.
A District of Columbia U.S. District Court judge ruled in June against the Air Transport Association, which was seeking to stop the rule change to go into effect. The rule change requires that union votes be determined by a majority of those who cast ballots, rather than a majority of all workers eligible to vote.
Shortly after the rule change went into effect, unions filed for representation elections at Delta to resolve labor representation in the airline's merger with Northwest Airlines.
The appeal is not expected to immediately affect the elections at Delta.
