$71.8 million from HUD to improve public housing in Georgia
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The Department of Housing and Urban Development gave Georgia $71.8 million to renovate and improve public housing.
The money can be spent on large-scale improvements such as new roofs, energy-efficient upgrades or to replace old plumbing and electrical systems.
“While this funding will certainly help housing authorities address long-standing capital improvements, it only scratches the surface in addressing the deep backlog we’re seeing across the country,” said HUD Southeast Regional Administrator Ed Jennings, Jr.
Among the largest recipients of the money are the Atlanta Housing Authority with $14 million, the Marietta Housing Authority with $1.2 million, the Housing Authority of Fulton County with $665,887, the Housing Authority of Decatur with $415,071, and the Newnan Housing Authority with $646,433.
