Charlie Morton to pitch for Pirates against Braves

Wednesday’s Pitching matchup
• Pirates RHP Charlie Morton (season debut) vs. Braves RHP Jair Jurrjens (5-3, 2.84)
• After not allowing more than two runs in eight consecutive starts, Jurrjens gave up five runs in five innings and four runs in seven innings in his past two starts. He’s 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA and .333 opponents’ average in those two.• Former Braves prospect Morton makes his major-league season debut against the team that traded him to Pittsburgh one week ago as part of the package that brought center fielder Nate McLouth to Atlanta.
What to watch for
• Jurrjens is 0-2 in his past two starts against Pittsburgh despite a 3.09 ERA and .179 opponents’ average. The Braves scored no runs while he was in either game. Overall, he’s 1-2 with a 3.18 ERA in three starts.
• Morton was 7-2 with a 2.26 ERA in 11 starts in Class AAA this season, including 10 starts for the Gwinnett Braves. He was 4-8 with a 6.15 ERA in 16 games last season as a Braves rookie.
