At home sick? What are your favorite movies to watch?

Hi, everyone. I’m checking in with a briefer-than-usual blog post, because I had my wisdom teeth out this morning. So far, I’m recovering fine, and everything went smoothly, but I don’t really have the energy for a proper blog post. I do, however, have the energy to nap and watch TV. Which leads me to pull out a blog post I wrote more than two years ago (!) asking readers of this blog to share their favorite movies to watch when they’re at home sick.

Normally, I would opt for an old favorite like Clueless (as I did in the aforementioned blog post), Clue, The Princess Bride (itself book-ended by a home-sick Fred Savage), Mean Girls, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (also apropos), Rear Window, Star Trek IV: The One with the Whales, etc., etc.

Today, though, since we’re only halfway to the end of October (and Halloween), I’m opting for some scary and supernatural fare: Urban Legends: Final Cut (which I’ve never seen, but I have a soft spot for the original), followed by the just-released The Stepfather and Sam Raimi’s Drag Me To Hell, both of which I blogged about yesterday. Also on deck is Trick ‘r’ Treat, and the non-horror themed duo of Atom Egoyan’s Adoration and Steven Soderbergh’s Che: Part Two, and a whole mountain of other stuff that I can always sift through.

What about you? With flus (swine and otherwise) and seasonal allergies rearing their ugly heads, you may even have a fairly recent example to share. So tell us: What are your favorite movies to watch when you’re at home sick?

Fargo, American Beauty, entire DVD’s/seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm (not a movie but funnier than most movies).

If I go for movies when I’m sick, it’s the tried and true romantic comedies like Sleepless in Seattle or You’ve Got Mail. When I was home sick this past weekend though, I watched the first two seasons of How I Met Your Mother. Next time I’m home sick I might opt for Gilmore Girls. Shows like that can stand up to repeated viewings.

I’m not really “stuck” at home but I’m home most of the time as I’m a stay at home Mom…heh. Anyway, this time of year, I like watching the Halloween series ( the original story line)and some classic zombie movies! That’s when my daughter’s sleeping though :)

Due to my former roommate’s penchant for WWII flicks I have seen multiple times Schindler’s List and the Band of Brothers series with the occasional viewing of Saving Private Ryan. When a child, living with my parents, a common sick day stand by was Around The World In 80 Days starring Pierce Brosnan (my mom’s influence there) but my personal favorite is Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

I’m oncall all week long, so I’m tied to my home office for 7 days straight.. Don’t see the sun much during this time. But, I have a media center with over 600 movies on tap in my family room. I usually can find something to watch. Something with Clint Eastwood usually puts me in a good mood.

derwood- I thought I had a lot of movies at 300 some. To answer the question. I love to Home Improvement series with Tim Allen and Richard Karn. I have the entire series on dvd and it makes me feel better when I’m sick.

I’d always have to go with Mean girls, Half Baked, and Waiting to Exhale. I can watch those movies repeatedly. Also, not a movie but any episode of Sex in the City.

Definitely ‘The Thornbirds’ or ‘Gone With the Wind’. Both are epic movies, with ‘The Thornbirds’ coming in at 8 hours long! Great for a cold dreary winters’ day … or a day recuperating!

Something to take my mind off of being sick… Bladerunner, most Hitchcock movies, Indiana Jones, Star Wars…
