ick… as bombastic as most of the bond theme songs; at this point, it doesn’t matter who does ‘em… they ALWAYS sound pretty much alike, which is kinda weird… that said, it might be slightly better than some. The songs have never been the best part of the series…

I think ronster’s on to something here; the Bond songs lately sound tpo similar to one another. They used to hit the charts pretty regularly, but when was the last time one was a hit over here? “A View to a Kill,” maybe? Perhaps if the producers let the artists be themselves a little more, rather than trying to shoehorn them into the Bond sound, we might actually have something interesting again.

JUNK… As a middle-aged former (classical & pop) musician, who happens to enjoy today’s “hip hop” (immensely), I cannot give a “thumbs-up” to this one. Except for an attempt to keep with today’s style of music, my 20-yr old could’ve composed better, and he’s not even a musician. Anybody with “Hip-Hop” software could do better. To give credit where credit is due, I like the beat, but the lyric seems too muffled (not something folks will be singing in the bars, on the streets, or humming on the subway), melodically it is too “gruesome” for the big screen and older viewers (baby-boomers), regardless of the times; and…what the heck was that foreign friggin’ message at the end? Is that some subliminal message of warning, telling us that the U.S. WILL, in fact, be ruled by Muslims, someday? (Glad I won’t be around for it.) In my final summation/suggestion, “‘Can’ it…try again…this will never work. Even the “kids” might reject it. It sux. Do it over…before the movie comes out!” Don’t you guys remember “Live and Let Die”, “Diamonds Are Forever”, “Goldfinger”? Those songs DID make their respective movies…in my opinion, and that of millions of others who knew the words, and sang ‘em all the time. Peace.

well, i think mybestcritic makes some good points … esp on “diamonds are forever,” and the theme songs from the connery era, which did indeed chart and also seemed to evoke the culture of the time in which they were made… but i think “live and let die” makes the point that rockers have always done badly on bond songs… i know some people liked that one, but i always thot it was where mccartney turned hammy and mediocre, as tho he was trying (well, he was) to write a rock version of a big movie show tune… which, i argue, is inherently a BAD IDEA, even for somebody of his enormous talents… Sir Critic gets it right with his comment about “shoehorning” into the Bond sound. which is what, exactly? the character is rooted in 1960s playboy/dinner jacket/martini culture, which is why the movies made in those days more naturally used the popular, orchestral-based, big-band songcraft of the day… Bond is not a rock and roll character, and rock songs miss the mark. Trying to force them is just a bad idea, and the audience intuitively knows it. Now that the producers have apparently decided to recalibrate Bond’s watch back to his original mode with the great Daniel Craig (loved the last movie), maybe they’ll try to retro-wind on the songs, too. wouldn’t that be cool?
