Tom Cruise and religious intolerance
Walking out of Mission: Impossible III on Friday night, I overheard at least one person saying that every time Tom Cruise opened his mouth, all she could hear was, “I’m a scientologist. Blah blah blah. I like Scientology. Blah blah blah.”
Would anyone say that about a Christian moviestar as passionate about their beliefs as Cruise is? A Jewish moviestar? A Muslim moviestar?
I know that Cruise’s couch-jumping antics (which have little-to-nothing to do with Scientology) gave us all occasion for pause, but haven’t you ever been so in love that you practically couldn’t control yourself?
So what gives? What’s with the religious intolerance?

I don’t know, I imagine if you put Mel Gibson in a movie as an actor nowadays you’d get some pretty similar comments on the way out.
