Jon Stewart to host Oscars
I love Jon Stewart beyond reason. But I’m not quite sure he’s the right person to host the Academy Awards in March.
Frankly, he’s not that funny.
Don’t get me wrong. I love The Daily Show. I laugh right along with Jon Stewart at how ridiculous things are in our country and the world, or as the Show’s numerous pseudo-correspondents so brilliantly parody the sad state of the American media. But that’s the trouble: As Slate’s Dana Stevens recently noted, we’re always laughing with him, never at him. He doesn’t tell jokes. He’s not a traditional comedian. On the occasion that he’s tried (in movies and the like), it never really works out.
Then again, I could be wrong. What do you think?

He hosted the Grammys twice and did a nice job. I think he’s a good choice. Time will tell!By Dave

I have a better idea. Just cancel the show altogether. It’s lame.By mike

I hope he tells the vapid Hollywood establishment how, well, vapid they are. All of the “standby” hosts are growing dull in their dotage, especially Steve Martin. The show is stupid, but I do love watching this particular self-serving train wreck every year. And don’t get me started on how the Academy’s choices don’t hold up over time…By Stewart Fan

I think you’re wrong. Stewart has an irony drenched sense of humor that could pair well with the handing out of statuettes awarded more on the basis of box office receipts and election-style studio campaigns than actual merit. And incidentally, if you didn’t think Stewart was funny in “Half Baked” then you should try watching it on weed.
