Is Matthew McConaughey really the ‘sexiest man alive?’
The short answer is: No.
I want to give the Texas-born hunk his due, and all. McConaughey was indeed among the sexiest men on Earth — in, say, 1995. Doesn’t this feel like a sorry attempt by People to set the trends for once, rather than merely forecast or — worse yet — report them?
Well, despite my fondness for McConaughey’s underrated action picture Sahara, I’m not buying it. Who’s sexier? Oh, I dunno: How about at least twenty other men. And they are, in no particular order…

As for People’s sexiest man thing…what People does is pick someone sexy who appeals to a broad spectrum of people who would buy People. And apparently this year it’s Matthew McBongo. Frank Black of the Pixies. David Bowie. Bill Murray. I hadn’t thought of Eminem in a suit. I agree, but I’ll only go along if his hair is a natural color. (I think most men look better in a well-made suit than in casual clothes.) And speaking of looking great in a suit: Clooney. Paul Newman is also a great choice — he’s what, 80? Amazing. How about Josh Holloway (Sawyer from Lost)? Those sexy eyes can go from looking open and vulnerable to sly and cunning in a split second. Bad boys are so yummy!
