Fingerhut joins Boston education advocate
Eric Fingerhut, whose last day as chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents was yesterday, won’t be leaving the field of higher education policy.
Jobs for the Future, a Boston-based nonprofit education advocate, announced today Fingerhut will join them as a senior fellow. The group works to improve pathways from high school to college and the workforce, according to its website.
“I have long been an admirer of the work done by (Jobs for the Future) in developing opportunities for America’s youth and low-skilled adults,” Fingerhut said in a news release. “They are well known nationally for their policy efforts in education and workforce development and I look forward to beginning my work with them today.”
Fingerhut held a cabinet-level post as head of Ohio’s university system and developed a master plan for the state aimed at reducing costs and enrolling and graduating more students. Parts of the plan Fingerhut developed are being emulated in other states.
A Democrat appointed by Ted Strickland, Fingerhut said he resigned a year before his term ended to give Republican Gov. John Kasich’s pick, Jim Petro, time to prepare for the next budget that will be released tomorrow and is expected to contain funding cuts.
