Pittsburgh superintendent headed for Antioch job
YELLOW SPRINGS - The chief of the Pittsburgh City Schools appears to be in line to be the head of the new Antioch College.
Mark Roosevelt is set to visit campus next week and will be the only candidate to do so after a second person in the running dropped out for personal reasons, said Gariot Louima, college spokesman.
Roosevelt announced his intention to leave his superintendent position at the end of the year, according to a report by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Roosevelt told the paper he was ready for a “similar challenge, but this time in higher education.”
His visit to Antioch will include a campus tour, public forum and meetings with staff and college officials. He is a Harvard graduate and former Massachusetts state representative who ran for governor.
He will be in Yellow Springs Oct. 13 and 14.

So far, the news from Antioch isn’t what would be expected to restart a fine college in its time. Free tuition for the first 25 students and now bringing in someone far less in academic credentials than the college has enjoyed in the past….I don’t know. We need Antioch as it was and, of course, that won’t happen any time soon. While I wish the folks involved in this all the best, I hope they use the opportunity in rebuilding from scratch to make good decisions. I’m just not sure this is one of them.
