Sinclair trustees OK technology fee hike
DAYTON - Sinclair Community College board of trustees voted Tuesday to raise the fees charged to students to help cover the cost of updating technology on campus and offering online classes.
Students will pay $3 more per credit hour, if they live in Montgomery County, which supports the college through a tax levy. Other Ohio residents will pay $4 more per credit hour. Annually the fee hike will add $135 to Montgomery County students’ tuition bills and $180 for out of county students, keeping the college one of the cheapest in the state for Montgomery County residents. The fees will be phased in, beginning in 2011, over two years and raise about $5 million a year for the college.
Sinclair had to win approval for the increase from the Ohio Board of Regents because it was above the annual 3.5 tuition increase cap per year. College trustees increased tuition the full amount allowed under the cap earlier this year.
Historically fees and tuition at the college have remained low with the college freezing tuition 12 of the last 19 years. Sinclair enrollment has grown by 30 percent over the past three years and recently hired 145 employees to meet that demand, college officials said.

Is Sinclair not ever supposed to raise fees??? I pay 325$ per semester hour. If you think Sinclair’s rates are to high go some where else. Just remember that Sinclair is one of the ONLY bright spots in Dayton.

This is to cover the 6.5% wage increase to SCC staff that was mentioned in earlier articles and letters about faculty unionization. Let’s all apply for jobs at SCC and we’ll raise the Dayton economy in a flash! We need to check that campaign material to see if this was already covered in the plea for the tax increase.

Sinclair needs to raise fees if state funding is inadequate.I would say that around 75% of the new hires are part time and many were hired days before classes began. How can these people do adequate preparaation?
